Implementing Recommendations
The final stage of the program review process is implementation. After the completion of the external review and when the unit director has received the review report, the assessment team meets with the unit director and their supervisor to discuss the findings and implementation plans. To facilitate with this process, each recommendation from the external review report is compiled into an Implementation Matrix, which helps units track, prioritize, and plan for next steps. Recommendations are categorized based on priority, feasibility, and alignment with the unit’s goals and available resources. The matrix provides a structured way to assess which recommendations should be implemented first and how they can be incorporated into the unit’s strategic planning efforts.
Project management support is available to help unit directors navigate this process, from developing actionable implementation plans to identifying the most relevant tools to help with project management. This support includes assistance in setting realistic timelines, identifying potential challenges, and ensuring that progress is monitored effectively. Whether a unit is looking for guidance in structuring a phased implementation approach or refining existing plans, resources are available to support decision-making and execution.
An example of the Implementation Matrix can be accessed here, providing a framework for units to organize and track their implementation efforts. Units are encouraged to use this tool as they work through their recommendations and to reach out for additional support as needed.
